Seattle Food Tech Announces New VP of Business Development
Seattle-based plant-based food start-up taps Kristie Middleton, Completes the YC Accelerator $1M investment round

(Seattle, WA – December 3rd, 2018) – Seattle Food Tech (SFT) is excited to welcome Kristie Middleton as the company’s Vice President of Business Development. Middleton will lead a multifaceted branding, outreach, distribution, and sales effort to bring SFT’s plant-based chicken products to schools, hospitals, universities, and the military.

Middleton joins SFT from her position as Managing Director of Farm Animal Protection at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). During her time at HSUS, she directed the group’s efforts to promote plant-based eating among food service management corporations and institutions across the United States. Middleton partnered with the nation’s biggest school districts including Los Angeles, Detroit, and Houston and major food companies to implement plant-based initiatives such as Meatless Monday. Her work has been covered by national media, including The Los Angeles Times, Civil Eats, San Francisco Chronicle, and Politico. Middleton is also the author of MeatLess: Transform the Way You Eat and Live—One Meal at a Time, and is a sought-after speaker and thought leader on plant-based eating. She also served as one of SFT’s advisors since the company’s founding.

Middleton’s hire comes on the heels of SFT’s completion of the sought-after Y Combinator (YC) accelerator program in Silicon Valley, and a YC Demo Day resulting in $1M of angel investments. Prominent investors include Liquid 2 Ventures, Sinai Ventures Fund, Uphonest Capital, and a second investment from VegInvest, which participated in SFT’s pre-seed round in January 2018.

While SFT has only been in operation for 9 months, production of the company’s plant-based Crispy Nuggets is up and running in South Seattle. SFT will start delivering to select customers in December, including to schools and restaurants in the Seattle area.

Also, SFT will be a featured company at the Technology Showcase at Future Food Tech in March in San Francisco. SFT’s CEO, Christie Lagally, recently spoke at Food Navigator’s Food for Kids Summit and the Seattle-area Smart Kitchen Summit.
