Plant-based food tech start-up taps former Yahoo VP

(Seattle, WA – April 22 , 2019) – Seattle Food Tech (SFT) announced today that Peter Cnudde has joined the food tech startup company’s board of directors. SFT is making juicy, crispy, delicious, and affordable plant-based chicken for the foodservice industry by creating and implementing unique food manufacturing methods in large-scale production to produce affordable plant-based meat at high volume.

Peter brings 25 years of experience in technology and has co-founded several startups, serving in executive roles at both startups and major multinational companies. He is an industry fellow and an advisory board member for the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at UC Berkeley where he was a co-founder of the Alternative Meat Lab. Most recently, Peter was a Vice President of Engineering at Yahoo responsible for Yahoo’s Big Data and Machine Learning platforms.

Prior to Yahoo, Peter co-founded several startups and was CTO at Cognitive Match. Earlier in his career Peter held leadership roles at several telecommunications companies including Alcatel, GlobespanVirata, RF Micro Devices, and Packethop.

Peter holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ghent in Belgium.

“I’m proud to join the board of Seattle Food Tech because I stand firmly behind its mission of ending factory farming and creating a better food system for all,” Peter said. “What I appreciate most about the company is that it’s tackling one of the most overlooked aspects of the plant-based foods industry: fundamentally changing production methods to create a more efficient, thus affordable and scalable solution through the use of technology.”

Other board members include chairperson Christie Lagally, SFT founder and CEO, and Kristie Middleton, SFT Vice President of Business Development.

“Peter comes to Seattle Food Tech with decades of experience both building companies from the ground up and leading large teams at massive companies,” said Lagally. “We believe his expertise and commitment to the mission of our organization will help catapult the company to success.”

Peter’s appointment to the board comes as SFT’s manufacturing scales. Founded in late 2017, the food production and manufacturing technology company is gaining momentum with foodservice customers in the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle Swedish Hospital locations and restaurants in Seattle and Portland, now serving its plant-based Crispy Nuggets.

The company completed the sought-after Y Combinator (YC) accelerator program in Silicon Valleyin 2018, and has raised $2.2 million in investments. Prominent investors include Joe Montana’s Liquid 2 Ventures, Sinai Ventures Fund, Uphonest Capital, and VegInvest.
